Passionate about taking photographs of people in natural light.
Combining Art & Education Since 2013
My name is Karlene Laycock and I have a passion for family friendly photography using natural light. I started to take photos for personal use when I had my first child 11 years ago and have continued to develop my skills through taking photos of my children at every opportunity. I have experience taking photographs of children during activities such as Sports Day Events, Christenings, birthday parties and while at play.
In 2013 I completed my City & Guilds Level 1 in Photography at Stockport College with a Distinction. I completed Level 2 in 2015, also with a Distinction. Doing both of these courses helped me to find my style of taking children in natural play with natural expressions, in the moment.
In addition, I enjoy taking photographs of flowers, cakes and family treasures and earlier this year did a series of High Speed Photography images for my website.
Since achieving my City & Guilds qualification, I have become a member of the local Gatley Photography Club which has provided the opportunity to learn different types of photography.
In July 2016 I started to volunteer taking photographs on behalf of the Gatley Festival organisers at both the Gatley Festival Parade and Gatley Bake Off. I also took photographs at the Gatley Walk in July 2016 in aid of St Ann’s Hospice and St James’ Bake Off and Christmas Fair.
2017 I continued to volunteer to take photographs locally, including the Gatley Festival, Gatley Sports Day, Gatley Fun Walk and various events for Gatley Primary School.
In April 2018 my photograph taken at Salford Quays, Manchester was chosen as on the BBC News website as England’s Big Picture of the day.
In November 2018 my photograph was chosen as one of 12 winning images selected to feature in the Cewe #myinspiringmoments charity calendar. The image features in the Cewe charity calendar for the month of February with proceed going to Mind Charity.
